Discover The Best Low Carb Pasta To Enjoy On The Keto Diet

1. Low Carb Pasta Alternatives

I’m not trying to be a broken record (if you’ve read our other posts), but keto is not about giving up.  It’s about replacing, modifying and or improving.  No matter what what that negative Nancy tells you.

Here’s the skinny (lol) on changing the way anyone eats.  Fried chicken is delicious (to most people) although not at the top of the healthiest thing you can consume.  But you want that fried chicken.  So, the way we see it, you have 3 choices:

1. Eat the fried chicken and maybe feel guilty later
2. Don’t eat the fried chicken and maybe feel pissy later about missing a yummy meal
3. Find a healthier way to enjoy fried chicken and possibly you end up liking the healthier way better

Isn’t #3 true, though?  How many times have you gone back to an old favorite after a lot of time off and it doesn’t taste that great?  You can break bad habits and find out that you don’t really like the “old ways” anymore!

Do keto, don’t do keto, count calories or not, paleo, vegan and/ or no diet.  It doesn’t matter what anyone does or doesn’t do.  It only matters what you want to do.

If you’re here, it’s probably because of keto and you’ve lost weight with lowering your carb intake or you’re about to see the many benefits of a low carb lifestyle and you want to learn some more options.

So, what are those options?

2. What Are The Best Low Carb Substitutes For Pasta?

Obviously you’ve heard about the baked feta pasta that pretty much broke Finland, right?  They ran out of feta from the popularity of this recipe.  Check out the recipe here from Feel Good Foodie.  She was one of the first TikTok accounts I followed.  She’s awesome.

This recipe has alllll the carbs.  We can do better than that.  The first substitute for pasta is:

Add 10 ounces of cherry tomatoes to your oven safe dish.  Place 5 ounces of feta in the center of the dish, 2 – 3 garlic cloves and 2 – 3 tablespoons of avocado oil.

Next you’ll throw some salt and pepper to taste on everything along with some red pepper flakes and oregano.  That will go uncovered into your 400 degree oven for 30 minutes.  When it has finished cooking, remove the dish and stir everything together creating your “pasta sauce”.

When was the last time you were at Whole Foods and you saw a package of spiral zucchini but didn’t know what to do with them?  This!  This is what you do with them.  Place them in a microwave safe bowl and heat them for 2 minutes on high.

Mix your heated zoodles in your pasta sauce and enjoy a low carb version the original baked feta pasta.

Pro tip:  The “pasta sauce” may be a bit thick.  Add some warm water, a little at a time to thin the sauce to your desired consistency.  I added cubed grilled chicken to mine and it’s on rotation in this house.  It’s very good!

Would you like another idea instead of zoodles?  When was the last time you used spaghetti squash as spaghetti?

Katie Lee, from The Food Network, made a pizza crust out of this vegetable and I was in food heaven when I made this recipe at home.  It’s a must try!

3. Do You Want To Know What Kind Of Pasta Has The Lowest Carbs?

Sure you do!  Let’s go!

A quick lesson:  You can make regular pasta at home with flour, eggs, olive oil and salt.  That’s it, super simple.  But, you don’t have flour in abundance in your house because you’ve removed a lot of temptation, right?  Ya, ok – I have flour, too.  But I keep it out of sight, out of mind.

A lot of the low carb pasta that you can find online or in markets use a different source than flour.  Chickpeas, beans and veggies are high fiber alternatives and those don’t affect blood sugar.  But, some, in my opinion, affect the taste.

Only you can decide which ones you like and do not.  My cousin loves all of the low carb pastas from the brand Explore.  For me?  Not so much.  I mean, to be fair – after a few drinks, I’ll eat anything.  Except the Edamame Spaghetti from Explore.  But I know so many people who love that one in particular.

You’ll just have to get out there and conduct your own tests.  How terrible, right?  Play chef for a day….hehe

6 “Pasta” Options:

Barilla is a well known product and a large company.  So you should not be surprised to find low carb options such as a chickpea version.  They also have a protein plus spaghetti that comes in at 31 net carbs for 2 ounces and a red lentil option with penne and rotini styles to select from.

Amazon Impastable may or may not be known to you, but this is one to commit to memory.  Especially if you want to make a low carb pasta salad.  This product weighs in at 8 net carbs for 2 ounces.

Banza is similar to Barilla in net totals coming in at 30 net carbs for 2 ounces.  But the star note here are the cool shapes available, it’s gluten free and vegan.  Yay, Bonza!

Do you recognize this one from Shark Tank?  An impressive 4 grams of carbs from Palmini will make your Sunday night Spaghetti and Meatballs a breeze for your Monday weigh-in!

Great Low Carb Bread Company is one of those must haves in your shopping routine.  They have so many options for your low carb needs.  Averaging around 6 net carbs per serving, this is a needed item for your keto or low carb pantry.

I mean, what am I supposed to write?  You already know how I feel, buuuut, I know so many people who love their products and it’s not for me to tell you what you will or won’t like.  So, it makes the list and it’s up to you to decide if it makes it to your list.  8 grams of fiber for this one but there are many other options and tastes for you to make a final decision.
