There was no way I was going to consider a lifestyle change in the food department if that change did not automatically include my favorites.  Snacks.  I need snacks in my life.  And, if I was going to learn the keto diet, I was going to learn about all the good low carb snack options available to me.

You may be in the same boat as me and if weight loss is a goal, you didn’t get to this point without snacking.  Snacking was a problem for me but there is good news for you!  A low carb diet can actually curb your hunger pangs between meals.  It’s true, you most likely will end up eating less!

But, we all need snacks from time to time!

This post is all about good low carb snacks.

Amazingly Good Low Carb Snacks

1. What Can I Eat With No Carbs?

Typically, protein contains zero carbs.  And, while you may call a 16 ounce New York strip a snack, you may also be looking for an easy grab and go option.  Zero sugar beef jerky like the one above from Tillamook is a great item to stock in your house when you’re first starting out and when you’re looking to shake up your snack routine.  You can also enjoy “regular” beef jerky, not just the sugar free one, but pay attention to the carb count on the label.  Only sugar free jerky is carb free.

Pork rinds (or, chicharrones) are another popular option.  You can find them fried, the OG version and they have baked options, too.  Pro tip:  Remember pork rinds as a solution for a crispy topping.  They also have zero carbs and many a keto lover crushes them to top popular dishes like mac n cheese.  They are a breadcrumb substitute.

Two other zero carb snack options include:
-Hard Boiled Egg Whites (Need the yolk?  An entire hard boiled egg is .06 grams of carbs – not bad!)
-Goat Cheese, to top that Egg White? (Other cheeses are not far behind with cheddar at .04 grams )

Do a deep dive on the internet, focus on proteins and you’ll discover options that suit you with zero carbs.

2. High Protein Low Carb Snacks:

The above lists a few zero carb items, but who needs zero carbs when you can have all the fun with low carb?

Keto friendly snacks should be 3 things.  High in fat, moderate in protein, and low in carbs.  This is the same for your keto meals.  If you follow these 3, you shouldn’t need a snack.  The first week can be rough if you’re just starting Keto.  In the beginning, your body is using up all of it’s glucose and glycogen and tells your brain it’s time for food.  You may actually find you’re more hungry than usual.  That’s ok, push through!  Once you’re in ketosis, you’ll find you’re not hungry in-between meals if you’re keeping in line with high fat, moderate protein, and low carbs.  This is such a happy state to be in for us snackers!

But, there is always time for a snack and when you need one, check out some of my absolute must – haves that live in my house.

-Cheese and Pepperoni / Cheese and Cold Cuts
-Peanut Butter (no sugar!) and Celery
-Avocados, Olives, Brazil Nuts

And these (also found at Walmart, CVS, and most Grocery Stores)

3. Other Yummy Low Carb Snacks to Buy:

These are life.  Period.  Until I hit the ketosis stage (aka: no longer my usual ‘inhale alllll the food’ stage), these babies kept me happy and within my daily carb goals.  They are so good.  And, Highkey has so many different options for you to enjoy like: chocolate mint cookies, chocolate peanut butter, lemon and even biscotti for your coffee break.

Check out other companies like Thrive Market, Schoolyard Snacks, BHU Keto, and one of my favorites – the Keto Box.  This is a no-brainer.  You sign up and a box of delicious snacks is delivered monthly.

I followed a Food Network Deviled Egg Recipe

And added a deveined and cooked shrimp coated in Frank’s Redhot and a little butter.  Then, sprinkle crumbled blue cheese and add a parsley garnish if you’re extra like me.

Not into shrimp?  Top that little nugget with sausage.

And, don’t forget about TGI Friday’s Spinach and Artichoke Dip.  That saved my life a few times in the beginning.  You can dip celery, cucumber, green pepper, red pepper, and limited amounts of carrots into it.  Or, make these “chips” from delish.com.

2 C  Shredded Mozzarella
1 C Almond Flour
1/2 t Chili Powder
1 t Kosher Salt
1 t Garlic Powder
Cracked Black Pepper

  • Oven at 350 degrees.  Then, microwave the cheese for 30 seconds then add the remaining ingredients, and knead the dough with your hands until small ball forms.  Then place it between parchment paper and roll it out into a large rectangle.  Cut triangles and bake on a lined sheet pan for 12 – 14 minutes or in an air fryer for 7 minutes.  You’ll want the edges to be browned and then dip away into that spinach and artichoke dip.
